Dog Training Videos

When I was 12 years old I learned something important about myself. I learned that I could retain new information and knowledge much better if I could see the application visually or even better – in person. Many people are this way, they need to see an example before the lesson sticks. I also learned that some people are capable of reading something technical and instantly understand the application. I am not this way. Although I am trying to develop that skill, I learn much more effectively by visual examples. Tell me how to do something and it goes in one ear and out the other. Show me how to do it and it sticks.

When I started shopping for good dog training videos one thing became very apparent. Dog people have never heard of a DVD. At least that’s the way it seems when you go shopping online for dog training videos. Only very recently have the publishers started releasing titles in the DVD format. The problem is that some of the best dog training videos were released before DVDs were even available as an optiion. For me this presented a very real problem since I don’t even own a VCR anymore. I had to borrow one from my parents just so I can watch my new dog training videos. I guess that’s what I get for being an early adopter of new technology.

I was able to find a couple of titles that are available on DVD, but 95% of dog training videos are on VHS so be prepared. Here are the first 4 videos that came highly recommended to me from the online dog training community. First, I purchased the latest video featuring dog training veteran Harold Adams called “The New Complete Pointing Dog”. Another title featuring Harold Adams is “Point!, Refining the Pointing Instinct”.

From another dog training veteran George Hickox I purchased the title “The Hunter’s Guide to Training Pointing Dogs”. The lone DVD that I added to my collection is “The Silent Command System of Dog Training” featuring RIck and Ron Smith. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Just found your site. I like it. Regarding DVDs, I haven’t seen it myself but have had the “perfect start” & “perfect finsh” training videos by Jon Haan at Pefection Kennels come highly recommended. They offer DVDs. I have ordered the set, but have not received it yet. I’ll let you know what I think after I view it.

Also, I am looking for a quality solid liver female pup for a future purchase…what kennel did you get Abbey out of?
