Pheasant Hunt Video Clip
This is a group of hunters I guided a few weeks ago at Rooster Valley Pheasant Preserve. The german shorthair “Bella” is owned by Will Fonte of Las Vegas and is a real nice dog. She has a sweet temperment and she would hunt all day if we let her. Ceasar is the hunter in the video clip (Will’s Brother). We had a fun day chasing roosters around at the pheasant farm. One of the most enjoyable things for me has been meeting new people and making new friends while working as a pheasant hunting guide. Sometimes the clients have their own dogs, in which case I will just pack birds and shoot pictures for them with my Nikon D50. Most of the time I get to work my own dogs which has been a great experience for Abby and Annie.

well the movie would not work but can you send me some tips about getting your german shorthair to retrieve my dog is great about pointing but stuggles with the retreving aspects.
Hey,
I really like your site. I am from Saskatoon, Sask. We have recently acquired a young Brit and am really excited for the spring to begin training. What type of ecollar do you use with your Brits? Any good advice when starting out with pups?
Thanks,
Clint
Hey Clint,
Congrats on your new Brittany. I have used both the DT and Tri-tronics e-collars. I am liking the Tri-tronics a little better even though it is more expensive. You can check out the new models at GunDogSupply.com they have the best deals on ecollars and hunting dog training supplies. Send us a pic of your dog and we’ll post it on the blog.

Which model of TT have you been using? What age did you start your Brit on a collar? I haven’t trained a pointer before. What are the best videos/books you have used?
Cheers.
I have the Tri-tronics Pro 500 G2 EXP Training collar with two collars/recievers. I actually won it in a raffle at a Dave Walker training seminar. His bird dog training manual is one of the best training books. I also really like the one title “Bird Dog” by Ben O. Williams. I didn’t use the ecollar until she was around 1 year old. The transition from the training collar/long lead to the ecollar is extremely helpful. As far as videos go, Dave Walker has quite a few good ones, and you can catch Ben Williams on the TV series “American Gun Dog” that airs weekly on the Outdoor Channel. There is a lot of good information out there, but try to pick one method and see it through to the end. Otherwise you and your dog are gonna get confused and frustrated.
